Start Your Own House Cleaning Business

We have all got chores that we hate doing, and it’s not nice thinking that we have to do most of them when we could be out enjoying themselves. So if you quite enjoy cleaning the house on a regular basis, then why not offer that same service to someone else?

Most people hate cleaning the house and would be more than happy to pay someone else to do it for them. If you are responsible and trustworthy, then why not set up a business doing just that? You might get more clients than you think…

This is the type of business where you will get a lot of clients via word of mouth. Trust counts for a lot when you start cleaning people’s houses, as you may sometimes do it when they aren’t around. A good way to start is to offer your services to people you know – however remote that connection may be. It gives you the opportunity to build up some experience and you may even be able to obtain references from people to vouch for you when you approach people you don’t know in the future.

The best way to charge for your services is to negotiate a flat fee for a specific time slot. You will have a fair idea of how long certain tasks will take you, and based on that you can come up with a price and a time slot that will suit the client. Make sure you don’t under price your services though – people are prepared to pay to have someone clean their home for them, and you don’t want to be working for a tiny amount of money.

You can also promote your services by distributing leaflets door to door, but it’s well worth making sure that they are good quality ones. You might even be able to get glossy paper and color printing if they aren’t too expensive. Another good idea is to use quotes from satisfied customers to help reassure people that you aren’t just any old person touting for work, and that you can be relied on to do a good job.

You should also remember to get some business cards printed up with your details on them. Encourage people to recommend you to their friends and family too – you could even offer them a discount if they manage to refer someone to you who takes up your service. How about a free house clean the next time you are due to visit them? This is a worthwhile offer to make since you stand to get another long term client from the effort, so you should reward the person who brought you the new business.

While it is a good idea to supply your own cleaning items if required, make sure you talk to each individual client to see whether they would prefer you to use their items or your own. Make sure you know where everything is prior to your first visit, and agree a time and day with each person so you can fit it into your schedule.

After a while you will find that you don’t need to have too many clients to fill up your book with orders, and you can enjoy a regular supply of cash from people that will make a big difference to your earnings each week.

Like this idea? Then why not leave us a comment below to let us know how it goes for you?

How to succeed in creating a good livelihood

“They conquer who believe they can”- Emerson

Everybody on the planet is working or competing for resources in some way. This is the reality of things, whether in a job or by doing business for yourself. If you want to secure a good livelihood for yourself and your family, you need to learn to succeed. Generally speaking winner come in many forms, but often have similar traits. We will briefly outline some tips for thriving in the workplace.

In order to make a place for yourself in this world, you need to be secure in your own skin. Once you are secure, you have determination. This in turn leads to drive, which will help to overcome the challenges that you may face from time to time. Being secure means knowing that your goals are achievable, since more often than not, most goals have already been done by someone else. The truth is, everything has already been done before, and you are just duplicating someone else’s journey. There is no need to reinvent the wheel.

Find a mentor who can help you get to where you want to go. These people have gone where you want to be, so they can help you walk out your own journey. One method is to do an informational interview, which will help you to build rapport with a person in the position where you want to be. You can do informational interviews informally at the clubhouse, or over a meal.

Working in teams

Some people have goals that are larger than life, meaning they couldn’t possibly be done by one person in a hundred years. However, if you go and build the right team, then perhaps the same goal is achievable within ten years. As an entrepreneur, you need to work smart. Don’t get bogged down on skills you currently don’t have. You should be a system where others can work with you and collaborate to achieve results. This is the real way to make money and do business.

Mindset over matter

The most important asset you have in the universe is your mind, since it is by your mind that you can will something to occur. If you study the advice of successful people, and successful salesmen, you will know that some people are more determined than others. One secret to doing well is to keep trying then, as simple as it seems. Of course, the real secret is in the method. Some people have a way of working that makes them more efficient than others. Some businessmen have special acumen that makes them successful- this is just a skill that they mastered.

If you have the wrong mindset, you only harm yourself. How do you know if you have the right mindset then? You should study the wisdom of people past who are trying to do what you do. All journeys are the same, in that they start and then they end. Don’t stop until you reach the livelihood you want to create for yourself.

Make Money With Domain Tasting

If you see a new kind of food and you’re not sure if you’re going to like it or not, you’ll normally taste it to see if it works for you. If it does, you buy it.

Domain tasting works in exactly the same way. Essentially it gives you a chance to see how successful a domain name is likely to be before hanging onto it for any real length of time.

This gives you a unique chance to test the waters before diving in and trying to make a money making site out of any one domain name. By trying it out first you will know exactly which domains are going to make you any real money.

When you ‘taste’ a domain you generally buy it for five days. Obviously you shouldn’t just buy any old domain name to begin with; you should still do your research to see which names are likely to work well for you.

Before you buy a name, make sure you have a parking service set up and ready to receive that name. You obviously don’t want to do anything with this domain name when you buy it – the idea is just to get it parked immediately to see if it gets any direct traffic to that name without any effort put in from you at all.

A lot of people point their domain name to an Adsense page they have set up, giving them the chance to earn some money during the test run. This is where you decide whether the name is worth hanging onto or not. If people do visit your page, click on the ads and make you money as a result, then you will want to hang on to that domain name.

When you find a domain name that doesn’t work, you simply cancel it by the end of the five day tasting period. After that it’s simply a case of ‘rinse and repeat!’

The way you do this is up to you. You can either start by tasting one domain at a time, gradually building up a repertoire of domains that are all bringing in money, or you can register dozens, hundreds or even thousands of different domains every month – although this last example is usually only done by those who can afford to spend a lot of time on the exercise.

The more domains you have though, the more money you will make from domain tasting. Some people make millions of dollars in ad revenue from this type of online business alone.

It’s important to remember that you don’t even need to build a site around a successful domain name once you find one. You may find that you are getting a decent amount of revenue simply from having a single page parked with your Adsense adverts on it. You can of course build a site with valuable content included on it if you wish.

Not all domain registrars offer domain tasting, so the first step to getting started with this money making idea is to find a company that does. One good one can be found at www.dynadot.com.

So if domain tasting and parking sounds like a good idea, there is no better time to start thinking about which domain names are likely to pull in the highest amount of traffic.

Before you do though, why not leave us a comment in the form below? Let us know what you think!

Make Money Flipping Expired Domains

You may have heard of this but you might not be quite sure how it works. Can you really make money buying a domain name and then selling it to someone else? You bet you can – in fact some people actually make a living from doing just this!

There are several things you need to remember before you get started, but as long as you know what you’re doing you can start this kind of money making idea on a shoestring budget.

The basics of domain name flipping are simple to understand. You buy a domain name and you then sell it on to someone else at a profit.

If you like the idea of making money flipping domains, you might like to check out this step by step guide to domain flipping. Click Here to find out more.

But before you rush out and buy all the domain names you can think of, you should know that there are only certain ones that you should be looking at. It stands to reason that the domain names which have popular keywords in them will get more traffic than those which have no popular keywords in them, which is why you need to do some keyword research before you buy anything.

Think of money to begin with – this is always a safe bet. Anything to do with credit cards or making or saving money is very likely to have received a lot of traffic and will therefore potentially be worth a lot more to you.

Be ready to register your domain names when you find them by signing up with a domain name provider online. Make sure you pick one that won’t charge you a huge amount to register your domains, and it should also have a fast domain transfer facility you can use when you finally flip it over to someone else.

Now you might be thinking that you should sell it as fast as possible for a profit, but it can pay to hold off and see how popular each domain really is. If it gets plenty of footfall then you might want to take the time to build a good quality Adsense site around it to make some money from it yourself for months and years to come. Just don’t forget to renew the domain name!

But if you decide to sell it, it’s time to hit eBay. Lots of people flip domains on here and the auction format can result in getting a hefty profit on them if you’ve chosen well. You can also try listing your domains on classified ad sites all over the internet, but you’ll need to decide on a fixed price in this case.

If you decide you like this way of making money (it can result in quick profits after all) why not consider setting up your own website to sell your domains from? With the right domain name and some good content to back up your sales, you could soon have a thriving business selling something you’ll never actually see, touch or need to mail to your customers.

If you have any queries, feel free to post your comments below. In the meantime, start searching for those keywords and domains that will start bringing the money rolling in.

Or if you are really serious about getting started in this business, I recommend you start with a solid step by step plan, put together by someone who has been through it all. Click Here and get started today!

The Truth About Making Money

The American Dream! We have all heard it said many times as reminder of what’s possible. The dream that anyone, regardless of their background, ethnicity or circumstance can build a business that will make them financially independent for the rest of their lives. The dream is real, and people from all across the globe struggle to get here for the chance of obtaining it.

Income.com believes, the problem with The American Dream is that it is often sold as a common commodity by “gurus” in the form of late night infomercials or enticing videos or email campaigns. The pitch is spot on, hitting the audience where it hurts—their emotional yearning for a better life. “Want to be financially independent? Want more free time for family and friends? Want to be your own boss?” Of course they do, who wouldn’t. The message is alluring and it works. The problem is, the programs don’t.

The problem however is not the fact that what they are selling doesn’t work, in most cases it has worked at one time or another. The problem is that what they are selling is a particular formula that worked for them because of their personality and skill sets. It cannot simply be transferred to another who thinks and processes the world differently.

Could it work for others? Possibly. But income.com’s findings suggest the odds are stacked against them. Remember, the guru selling the product realized success because the system they developed was a natural fit for them. They did not come to it by chance.

At income.com we know there is no one-size-fits all approach to business and anyone who sells it that way rarely sees their success repeated in those who buy their late night soapbox solutions. Unfortunately, people will buy it on the emotion of what it can produce, without giving any thought to how the magical “biz in a box” aligns with them personally.

So what is the answer? How do those seeking the real American Dream, find the business that will both motivate and reward them? Well, today at income.com we are sharing the answer to this dilemma.

If you look closely at anyone who has achieved a nominal amount of success you will quickly see that there was much more behind his or her journey than emotion or luck. They chose a business or system that matched their personality, that was driven by passion and was a natural environment for them to thrive in.

Built by successful entrepreneurs, income.com has developed a scientific formula for matching people to the business they are most likely to succeed at. Our belief is that everyone can be a success story and we are challenging individuals everywhere to try our free system and put our science to the test.

If you are curious to see which business you should be pursuing, visit income.com today and try their free Business Compatibility Test. Who knows, your rags to riches story could be just a click away.

Make Money Writing Ads For Products And Services

Some people are naturally more attuned to making money online, purely because of the 24/7 nature of being able to do it. If you know what to do you can be making money right round the clock just from writing a few simple adverts.

What’s more, you don’t need a lot of money to get started (you can actually control what you spend right down to the last cent) and you can go at your own pace. The secret to success is in knowing which products and services to promote to earn the money.

Every day there is a group of people who are making money from writing small adverts for the products of their choice. This is actually quite an easy task once you know how to do it, and the great thing is that you don’t actually have to physically sell anything yourself.

So how do you get started? The key is to join a website which offers lots of affiliate products all under one virtual roof. The best two online today are Commission Junction (this gives you access to promote a wide range of products and services on all kinds of subjects) and ClickBank (which concentrates more on digital products).

These are both free to join and once you have done so you can promote any number of products via writing short adverts through Google AdWords and similar programs.

While you can advertise anywhere, Pay Per Click programs are the best to use since you don’t pay anything unless someone actually clicks on an ad you have written. By getting to know exactly how these programs work and reading through all the information given on these websites you will be able to get the best results from every ad you place.

You can also drive traffic to the products you are promoting by building websites and writing adverts to place on these too. The trick is to start small and see where you go from there. PPC advertising can be expensive if you dive in without doing small tests on products to see how well they work first, so be careful and choose your first few products carefully before diving in the deep end.

The best strategy is to set a specific amount of money as your ceiling each day. For example you could say that you won’t spend more than $5 over all the ads you choose (although obviously with a budget this low you wouldn’t be able to effectively promote more than two or three products or services at most). Make sure you keep accurate notes as to which strategies work better than others, and which ads need some work.

The one thing that attracts people to making money in this way is that it only takes a few minutes to write each advert – but the long term benefits can be enormous. You could still earn an amount of money from an ad you wrote months ago, so the more adverts you can eventually create the better the results will be.

Don’t just pick the products that you personally would like either. Take the time to discover which ones will be more popular with other people, as you might miss out on a lot of sales if you only concentrate on the things that you would like.

So if you’d like some practice at writing short adverts for all kinds of products and services, head over to ClickBank, Commission Junction and Google AdWords now to see what you think. And don’t forget to leave us a comment below to share your views on this great way of making some money online!

Making Money with a Commission-based Sales Job

One good way to make more money on the side if you have the talent is through a commission-based sales job. These days many businesses are looking to hire salespeople, but they don’t have the money to keep them on staff. Therefore, they end up sending out requests for contract based sales and performance based sales positions. If you have talent in selling and closing the deal, then chances are you’ll be able to make some money on the side. We’ll show you where you can find these positions, and give some tips.

Finding sales positions

One good way to find employers looking for sales jobs is through craigslist. You have to be careful to avoid job postings that look like they might be spam. However, you’ll often able to find employers who want to hire, slightly off the table. Sometimes people are so desperate that they end up working part-time or full-time arrangements on a contractual basis, which is not supposed to be legal. You also want to make sure that the employer has a good reputation, and is not a front for scams.

You can also look in the newspaper for these commission-based sales positions. These will often have fierce competition, and are more suited for part-time and full-time jobs. You might be able to find a position where you can work at home. However, for newspaper listed jobs, nobody better to meet people at the office and earn a bit more about the industry. You want to sell things that you have expertise in and that you can understand.

The last way to find part-time commission-based sales jobs is through odd jobs like carnivals and fairs. Often times if you look a couple months before a local fair is supposed to open up, you can usually find a decent commission only position. Usually you have less flexibility, and you might end up selling things like vacuum cleaners.

How to excel at commission-based sales

Some people find sales a challenge in some able think it’s a piece of cake. If you’re one of the latter, then commission-based arrangements are for you. You have to be able to emphasize with your potential clients. Often times you might have to do things like cold call or use more cold prospecting techniques. You have to be able to prove your value to your customer and deal with rejection. One of the strongest traits of a good salesperson is the ability to deal with rejection. You have to understand that customers are not personally attacking you, but perhaps they just don’t like the product you’re selling.

Customers would like salespeople who can listen, make recommendations, and don’t drive a hard pitch. This is just common sense. Usually the most successful commission-based people have a knack for getting along with others. If you’re at a location where you cannot learn more about your customer, such as at a fair, then you can try complimenting them on an aspect of their dress. You need to connect with your clients, and that is a people-serving soft skill.

How to make money being a virtual assistant

You know the typical large executive office, where the CEO is sitting in a large room, with the corner windows, and outside his or her door is a small desk where the full time assistant sits. That’s the one who receives you, and tells you to wait until their boss is ready to see you. Those are executive assistants, and they are valuable to any business owner. But the fact is that smaller businesses don’t have the money to hire full time employees, that’s why virtual assistants exist, and by becoming a virtual assistant, you can make a lot of money fairly easily.

First, what do virtual assistants do? Just like their real life, full time counter-parts, they handle things for an executive or business owner. They do everything that the boss considers must be done, but doesn’t have time to do himself. This includes sending marketing email, planning campaigns, keeping track of important events and reminding him about them, receiving incoming mail and phone calls, handling support requests and making summaries for the executive at the end of the day. These are just examples of the many things a virtual assistant can do in a typical day. It used to be that these tasks would require the assistant to be close to their boss at all time, but now with technology, that’s no longer the case. Through email, Skype and IM, a virtual assistant can do almost everything a secretary used to do.

So now that you’re interested in becoming a virtual assistant, what do you need to succeed? The nice thing is there’s very little requirement as far as knowledge or education. A virtual assistant’s most important asset is being dependable and able to work quickly. There’s no course that teaches this well, and usually business leaders look for virtual assistants who can prove their skills on a daily basis. So when it’s time for you to try and find a job as a virtual assistant, your experience is crucial to be hired. If you’ve already served as a secretary or assistant in any organization, make sure you mention it in your CV. Then, go to freelance sites like Elancer or Freelancer, and do searches for virtual assistant. You may find employers such as small business owners, or even companies looking to outsource their assistants online. In most cases these will be telecommuting contracts, so you don’t even need to live near your employer. Another tip is to look locally at small businesses, and see if their owners has an assistant or not, then propose yourself.

Being a virtual assistant is a great way to make money. While entry into this type of business can be more challenging than others, the requirements are very low, and the pay is typically quite good, especially if you do good work. Then, once you’ve started getting experience doing it, you may find it to be a life long job.

Earn money with donations

Donations typically have a bad reputation. It is akin begging, many people feel uncomfortable with it. They think not bring money, begging, begging people homeless, move next to the street, or bus stations, quarters. But donations have been made for an extended period of very many companies, there is no plan to begging. In this way to support someone or something, many people are willing to give donations to the right person, including you.

First, it is important to be careful about what contributions you want, you cannot use them. Cannot misrepresent what contributions will be used. Donations, claiming that they will continue to a non-profit charity, when they really didn't, is illegal. Making it seem as if you are requesting donations just because you don't want to work is not good. Donations are most successful when a project is to support or. If you create something, if it is art, craft, or a specific type of project that you can see, enjoy, and then you can ask for donations, that people will want to support you. Donations online and offline you can work, and ways to request donations without appearing as if you beg. Button on your Web page, for example, monthly donations support at all you're doing, can bring money.

If you are really serious about donations, it was at this time and look into something called Kickstarter. This site is a place where people with an idea to go and get money from ordinary people. First, you need to come with something viable project, which ultimately make money. You can then go through Kickstarter, you can specify how much money you need. The best way to get something in return for interest is a promise. For example, if your project is to build the first ever underwater housing for artists and peace while surrounded by fish, and then you can apply for this project and various people who give gifts such as free travel in the same Habitat, or fish.

Finally, is another way to get donations actually start your own charity. This can be anything that helps people or specific factor. You must be careful in this case however, it should be noted that the strict rules on what you can and can't do charity, but if you can, to help people with your donation, you may actually work for you is to make, you can then pay yourself a salary. As you can see, there are many ways to make money with a donation, it doesn't have to be just begging.

Make Money Rebuilding Expired Domains

Some of the ideas in this blog are built around reaping the benefits from something that already exists instead of building something from scratch. A great example of this is rebuilding expired domains.

There are thousands upon thousands of people who don’t renew their domain names for some reason; either they simply forget or they no longer want to run the site in question. What we’re interested in here is the fact that some of these domains were previously pulling in a lot of traffic for the site concerned, and they therefore make it possible to replicate the previous success of that site by building one of your own.

The first step for this money making idea is to find expired domains that were already receiving a decent amount of traffic. There are several sites online that auction off expired domains to the highest bidder, and once you’ve got your first one you can then start to build a site very similar to the one that previously existed.

These domain name sites will tell you which domains are expiring on the day you visit the site, as well as presenting a list of names which have already expired. This makes it easy to see at a glance whether there is anything which would be of interest to you.

It’s important not to build an exact copy here; simply identify the elements that made the previous site successful (as well as the domain name of course) and create something of your own which is even better than what was there previously.

The great thing about rebuilding an expired domain is that you already know it has done well in the past. This gives you a head start on building something you know will attract traffic. By doing some keyword research (and researching the subject in general to see which aspects of it will prove to be the most popular) you can really hit the ground running and start drawing in traffic almost from day one.

Depending on the subject of the domain, you can monetize it by selling relevant items off the site. By joining Commission Junction or a similar affiliate website you will be able to sell anything from vacation packages, DVDs, toys, games, computer peripherals… you name it, you’ll be able to find a service or product that you can sell via your site in return for a portion of the profits. There is also Google Adsense of course, which will let you display relevant ads on your site and receive an income from the clicks you get.

The best way to make sure your site remains popular is to keep it updated frequently. Add new content and articles where appropriate and monitor the performance of different products and adverts to ensure you are getting the highest amount of revenue possible.

As far as building a profitable website is concerned, you can get into profit much faster by relying on an expired domain rather than choosing your own.

If you are itching to see what’s just expired and available for you to buy, why not go and have a look right now? Leave us a comment in the box below first though!

Make Money with Bring The Fresh – Review

I was recently contacted by Kelly Felix who asked me if I would like to review his product Bring The Fresh. Since I am always on the lookout for fresh new ideas and SEO strategies I graciously accepted a free membership to Bring The Fresh in order to have a look through and post this review.

Ok, so lets get into the review:

It has a bit of a strange name, but Bring The Fresh is actually a system that will teach you how to build profitable websites, get them ranked in the search engines and get them generating income for you.

The creators of Bring The Fresh are Kelly Felix and Mike Long. Both guys have been around internet marketing for many years and have had some astonishingly successful websites in the past. (7 figure businesses).

You will discover how anyone can build a simple website in about 45 mins even if you have never built a website before. It’s really a simpler than most people think.Learn the key to a successful website – Choosing the right keywords to target. Get this wrong and you will find it 100 times harder to build a successful site. The simple way to get tons of people to link to your website. This is the number 1 ranking factor that you simply must have in order for your site to rank well in the search engines. How to uncover “starving crowds” of people who are desperate for your product or service. This is a sure way to success, find a problem, solve it, and people will gladly pay you for it.You will also get a “Behind The Scenes” Look inside Mike & Kelly’s past business successes. This is one thing that money can not usually buy for any price. You will also get full access to Mike & Kelly, including their Skype addresses and person Cell numbers. They truly are determined to help their members achieve their own success.Access to a Private Members Only Support forum where you can ask questions and have them answered by Mike & Kelly or one of their hand picked moderators. All up there there are over 30 video tutorials on pretty much every subject you need to know to get your own sites up and running and generating income.

Let’s start with the good, there are some great ideas presented in the training videos.  Mike and Kelly clearly know their stuff. They have both been extremely success in their own online businesses, running 6 & 7 figure online businesses in the past. The private members forum is also a great resource where you can ask the guys any specific questions you have and get great feedback.

Now for the bad. There are some parts of bring the fresh that I think could be improved. Personally I think the videos are a bit long winded, I don’t really like video training all that much, I prefer to be able to skip through to the bits that interest me. But then I have been doing this for over 10 years now, and already have quite a few sites ranking number #1 for their target keywords. so I know a lot of the basic stuff.

So for someone just starting out who is yet to build their first income generating site, then it’s probably worth the extra time to watch all the videos to fully understand the strategies.

And of course the Ugly. I have to say (Sorry Kelly) but the design of the site leaves quite a bit to be desired. I’m not sure what they were going for, with the name or the design, but ultimately it doesn’t matter what it looks like if the content is good enough. (Which I believe it is)

Only you can answer that. Bring The Fresh does deliver on its promises though. It is not a “One Click Wonder” type of system where they promise you riches at the push of a button. It contains solid information about how to build a real lasting online business. Real Businesses do take some work to setup though. So if you are looking for a “Get Rich Quick” type of product that promises you untold millions without having to do any work for it, then I am sorry but this is not for you.

If however you realize that in order to create anything of value, you need to do some work for it. Then I recommend taking a look at Bring The Fresh, it just might be what you are looking for.

If you decide that Bring The Fresh is for you, then I would like to sweeten the pot, with a bonus offer. So if you do join Bring The Fresh through one of the links on this page, I am happy to offer you a copy of my own “21 Step Guide To Building An Online Income”.

This is a PDF manual that I put together which explains each of the 21 steps that I use to build my own websites. A lot of the stuff in this guide is similar to the stuff you will learn in Bring The Fresh. But with my own spin, and personal experiences in it.

This process has enabled me to build several websites that now generate on average 10 to 14k per week in revenue. It has also been sold as part of a $5,000 Home Study Course. So I belive that it holds a fair bit of value.

In order to claim your bonus, simply post a comment below with your clickbank receipt number and use your real email address so I can send you your bonus.

Networking by doing Informational Interviews

Networking is good for making money, and it is a key skill of the business world. One of the best ways to meet new people, and others who have a higher status than us is to do an informational interview. You can network by doing informational interviews, which will lead to increased opportunities. Here we will give some tips on how to set up and your conduct during the informational interview.

Networking is a chance to meet other people, and if they like you, they may open up their networks of other persons to you. An informational interview is definitely not the same as a job interview, and the biggest taboo is to ask your contact for a job. Remember, you are not trying to get a job, but you are putting yourself out there to be available to that person and vice versa. These relationships take time, and if you ask for a job immediately, you will burn bridges. Perhaps you want to enter a new field, or find clients in a new industry. Having an industry contact will help establish you and your business in that sector. If you’ve ever looked at your insurance salesman’s business card, chances are it will say something like, “the best compliment you can give me is to tell your friends and family about me.” These convey the intent of informational interviews, to an extent.

Getting your foot in the door

The best way to get into a person’s office for informational interviews is to find a referral. If you need an accountant, for example, call your friend up who are friends with several accountants. If he is willing to introduce you, that is the best situation. Otherwise, you can call up the person and use your friend’s name. Say something like “John Doe told me about you, and suggested I talk to you about your [business]. I was hoping to enter your field. Would you be willing to meet over lunch or coffee?” One of the reasons you offer lunch is to reward them with a token of appreciation, as well as to entice them to meet with you. If they agree, you should block out that slot on your calendar and make sure to show up on time.

Questions to ask

You need to prepare a list of relevant questions to entering your contact’s industry. The list of questions should be personally relevant to you, so you can connect better with your interviewee. Ask things about their likes and dislikes of the job. What are the perks and what are the cons? What is the best way to enter his or her field? If you have a service and want to start selling in the interviewee’s industry, ask questions about needs of current professionals in that field. Can your business meet a need of that person’s industry? You may also ask more lifestyle questions, such as what is a typical workday like? What is the future of this person’s line of work, and is there room for newcomers? Use your gut feelings and don’t ask anything too invasive.

Start Your Own Local Business Selling Something That You’re Passionate About

One of the keys to being a success in business is definitely to start up in an area you have a natural interest in. You wouldn’t start up a restaurant if you hated food, or start selling flowers if you had no interest in them and they made you allergic.

Everyone has a passion for something and whether it is model trains, photography or cell phones that passion could hold a terrific business idea for you to capitalize on.

A lot of people think that in order to run a local business you need to find an outlet of some kind and rent out expensive premises to stand any chance of making any money.

But you don’t have to start out that way. In fact the best start to any kind of local business can often be through getting a market stall of some kind, if your business is suited to it. There will still be an outlay to rent it but it’s cheaper than a proper shop and it can get you off the ground and into profit a lot quicker on many occasions.

The main point to think about is whether your passion can be converted into a profitable business that will attract enough customers to keep going. You might need to do some research here to make sure your idea will fly, but even if it doesn’t look encouraging you might be able to alter the angle of it to appeal to a wider audience.

For example you might have a passion for making scenery for model train sets by hand, but there might not be enough of an interest in that to build a successful business around it. But if you were to start a model shop and make some of your scenery in front of the customers while the store was open, you would no doubt attract a lot of interest and probably more customers as well. You could use your hand built scenery to enhance all the model trains you put on display.

You will often find that with a bit of lateral thinking and some solid research you can find an angle on most subjects that would work well as a proper business. And it might not be something you make either. If you love computer games and there isn’t a games store in your local town at present, why not think about opening one yourself? Even if the major stores sell computer games, people will get to know you as being someone who loves them yourself and who knows which ones to recommend and which ones will work on what type of computer. Knowledge like this will put you head and shoulders above the competition.

The great thing about starting a business around a topic you love is that news of your passion for your subject will spread among customers by word of mouth. Eventually you will build up a good customer base even without advertising (although you should of course do all you can to draw in new people in as many ways as possible; the more visible you are the better).

In the end the amount of effort you put into your business will be far easier than it would be for a business you didn’t have the same passion for, and that alone will give you the determination and passion you need to succeed.

But before you rush off to start making plans, make sure you leave a comment for us below!

Make Money With Collectables

Who doesn’t love collectables? Truth is, there is a huge market for them and if you know what sells and where to get it from, it’s not rocket science to be able to flip it for a profit.

Knowledge is the key to success here – the term ‘collectables’ covers a lot of ground and so you need to decide which area you are going to concentrate on. By specializing in a particular area you are far more likely to make a lot of money by selling them, since you will know exactly what to buy in the first place.

Let’s find out more.

So which area of collectables should you pick? It could be that there is a particular area of collectables that appeals to you over all the others for some reason, or it could simply be that you have stumbled over a particular type that seems to sell really well.

Whatever the case may be, your first task is to find a source of that particular type of collectable that you can go to on a regular basis. EBay can be a good idea; watch out for badly listed products as these go for much less than they normally would. Misspelled items and ones ending at strange times often fetch less than their competition so keep an eye out for items like this. It’s also worth having a look in the wholesale or bulk lots sections, since you can buy in bulk more cheaply and divide up the lots to sell each item separately to make an overall profit.

You could also visit yard sales and similar venues to look for stock that you can sell on eBay. Many people are happy to get rid of what they see as junk, and you can snap up some great bargains at these places once you know what you are looking for.

EBay is a good way to test the market for your particular kind of collectable, since you can search the completed listings to see how well they are selling, and what they are currently selling for.

If you have access to enough stock you can also think about setting up your own market stall at a local fair or market, enabling you to sell directly to customers. It all depends on how comfortable you feel doing that; some people prefer selling online and going out to buy instead.

Whatever way you decide to conduct your business, always make sure you keep an eye on how your own area of collectables is doing. Many items fall out of favor sooner or later, only to be replaced by something else instead. By paying attention to what the rest of the market is doing you can start looking for stock in alternative areas before the need arises. It’s simply a way of protecting your interests and making sure you are always supplying the customers with what they want.

Like the idea of selling collectables you might have played with yourself as a kid? Why not start that research now to sell if other people like it as much as you do? Don’t forget to leave a comment below first though!

Start Your Own Email Newsletter Service

Email gets into all our lives, and while we may sometimes wish we didn’t have it – as the deluge of junk mail gets ever larger – it is still one of the best ways to get information that we want sent directly to us.

And this is where you come in. There are plenty of possibilities for running an email newsletter service which is either free or fee paying, and you can make a decent profit from either option.

The key to success is to pick a topic that will attract the attention of a lot of people. If you can do that you could be sitting on a goldmine…

Let’s start at the beginning here. A free newsletter? How can you make money with that?

The answer is to provide something that is worthwhile and has plenty of unique content in it. You need to be reliable as well. A weekly or monthly newsletter is the best option, although weekly will certainly keep you in the mind of the subscriber more easily than a monthly one. A month can be a very long time online.

If you already have a website then you could create a newsletter to tie in with that. If you don’t, and you have thought of a good and popular topic to create a newsletter on, then it’s a good idea to create a simple website around it as well, as this can help you net more subscribers. You may even have a product – let’s say an e-book for example – that has its own sales page. If you create a newsletter based on that same subject you can promote it as a bonus to everyone who orders the book. Alternatively it could be a freebie to entice them to order at a later date.

What you don’t want to do is populate every newsletter with lots of affiliate links. It’s okay to include them but you don’t want to overdo it. You need to provide a newsletter that has plenty in it that can’t be found elsewhere. If you don’t do this you’ll get a high drop out rate.

But what about charging for a newsletter?

You can only do this if you provide something truly unique. Some newsletters that charge a fee to receive them are based in the financial and money market arena for example, and you are getting specific financial information on stocks and shares that you can use to help make you some money.

The bottom line is that you need to be able to save or make your subscribers some money in return for asking them for a subscription fee. It is well worth taking the time to think about whether or not you can do this, as well as researching other similar newsletters online before you design your own.

The best shot you have of charging money for your newsletter is if you can create something unique that fills a gap in the market and answers a specific need. You also need to have a real enthusiasm for your subject – otherwise the weekly work of writing the newsletter will soon wear thin.

One final tip – plan a few issues out in advance, long before you send out the first newsletter to your first handful of subscribers. This will give you the time to start promoting the newsletter right from the beginning, as well as doing away with the possibility of panicking when you can’t think of anything to put in the next issue!

How to open a franchise business

For those who have the money, there are many ways to get into a franchise business for any industry. There are many pros and cons to getting into a franchise, but it is important to know where you’re going.

The easiest way to open a franchise is to start planning. Without adequate planning of your timeline and budget, it is easy to get sidetracked and spend a lot more for your business. You may get sucked into a franchise with easy talk, instead of by doing good research on your industry. If you care to make a profit, you will do your market research thoroughly before you pick up the franchise listings.

Chances are, you know what industry you want to get into. This is important, since it narrows down your target market and clientele. You probably have an even better idea of where you want to do business. For some, such as folks retiring from a previous career, this will be the most influential factor. Hence, you should do research on your local area markets as well. Don’t bet on a losing horse before you get to the races.

Selecting a business

It is often a good idea to meet with some people who can give you business advice. If you have a friend who understands business plans, you should talk to him or her. A franchise business needs to have a solid business plan before it enters negotiations. Often times the franchise owners will wax on about the features of their business, without really explaining to you what it takes to enter their industry. You absolutely need to learn a bit about consumer marketing if you are to succeed. I often see franchise owners who are in over their heads, and they don’t understand what it takes to play the game. Even though the franchise owners will support franchisees, it is up to you to run the store. This is only slightly different from opening your own brick and mortar store. Once you are sure a franchise is what you can do, then proceed by all means.

Finding a franchise

You can find listings of franchises in magazines that are aimed at people aspiring to start a business. One good resource is Entrepreneur. Another good resource for businesses in the states is Inc, Magazine. They have detailed listings of available franchises, often by price range. Remember that franchise owners actually do make a good sum of money from the actual licensing process, so it an expensive franchise does not mean a good franchise. Franchises are good at taking money from franchisees. They often will charge monthly fees from your small business revenue. You should also be careful at the franchise items you pick up for the business itself, to see if each item is needed.

Even if the franchise you are considering is not a public company, perhaps you can ask to see their financials. If you don’t know how to read financial charts, then find a friend or learn. If the headquarters of the franchise is not making money, chances are it is not worth your time and will bring lots of heartache.

Start A Local Grocery Delivery Service

Would you consider paying someone to do the jobs you hate doing? You would certainly pay someone to do the jobs you cannot do yourself or find difficult to do, wouldn’t you?

While you may find it easy to get your own groceries there are plenty of people who aren’t so lucky. In these situations they would gladly pay a little extra to have someone do their shopping for them and deliver it all to their home. Essentially you would be providing a smaller, more local and arguably friendlier version of the large scale services offered by some of the bigger stores.

While you can certainly deliver groceries for people who find it hard to get out and about and carry heavy shopping home, you’ll also find a ready market in younger people who are pushed for time.

This can influence how you promote your services as well, since you will want to be visible to the people who are most likely to use your delivery service. For example, younger people are far more likely to be connected to the internet, so it’s worth investing the money to get a website up and running that people can see.

Incidentally there are also a number of organizations in the US that offer to help you in this respect, and for a fee they will provide a fully customized website and lots of help and advice on getting started in this business. The website allows people to actually order their groceries online, and you then deliver them to the customer. This is grocery delivery on a much larger scale though, as it could really take off – so make sure you are prepared to go the whole hog if you go for this particular option.

If running things on a smaller scale appeals to you, you could always start off on by promoting your services via word of mouth and professionally designed business cards stating what you do. For example you could focus just on your elderly neighbors to begin with, speaking to people you know and generally spreading the word to get your first few clients. Once you have got underway you can then start to develop your business gradually.

What are the requirements? Well as we’ve seen you can do without a website if you want to start small, but you may find a car is a virtual necessity if you are doing a lot of shopping for one or more people in a single day. You don’t want to be spending all your profits on taxi cabs!

As for personal traits you’ll need to enjoy getting out and about and meeting people – and you’ll certainly get plenty of exercise. This isn’t for everyone but if you aren’t afraid of a bit of hard work then it could suit you right down to the ground.

If you’re thinking about giving this a try, leave us a comment by using the form below. We are always pleased to hear from you.

Making money as an actor

Acting is mostly a hobby for people, and it is very difficult to get established. All actors know that, but they accept the fact and try and get into a winning role. We have tips to help you get into a great role, provided you have the talent.

Many people who want to be actors go to acting school. This may or may not be an official, because often times recruiters would judge based on where you went to school. If you have a good reputation, it will be a lot easier to land professional acting job. The most important skill for an actor is patience, because the passport to acting requires many sacrifices. The worst thing you can do is to move to Hollywood, where living expenses are through the roof, and work as waiter.

You can establish yourself by working through networking. If you’re the big fish in your small city, perhaps you can get a referral to somebody higher. This makes you more relevant to the eyes of people who, for example casting in Los Angeles. The only way you will get noticed, is if somebody promotes you. This could be someone else who’s already established and has decided you are rising talent, or could be an agent.

In the meanwhile, you can probably make money for community plays and community performances. You’ll probably have to take roles that you would not care for, but that’s a given. You can work your way up, and most important element is time. Remember to keep your body in shape and don’t smoke or drink too much. Hollywood is quite vain and appearances do matter unfortunately. Keep your assets and remember your talents, no matter what people may say to you at any given time.

There are also many festivals where artists and actors alike can get themselves noticed. If you find a small team of enthusiastic movie makers, perhaps you’ll be able to land in a good movie. Perhaps you’ll be able to get noticed through an indie movie festival. There’s no way to guess who in the audience will make you a star, so be nice to everyone, even when they are rude to you.

Networking

If you went to school somewhere, you may want to talk to your alumni network. Find some other successful actors and actresses, and maybe they can help spare you some of the tough times. It’s worth the shot and there’s nothing to lose. Sometimes, if you did good quality work, someone at your school may vouch for you.

Other times, if you’ve got fans, perhaps someone can help you out. Don’t forget about anybody and don’t lose your head if you break through. Your standing is only as good as your popularity, which can change overnight. Most people who want to act will ignore this advice, and find themselves scratching their heads later. Try to land an acting role in a play that you had training for. Take classes at the local professional theatre.

Make Money Restoring Old Wooden Furniture

Quite often people resort to buying brand new furniture when they could just restore their old items to looking as good as they did some years before. While this doesn’t work with all types of furniture, wooden furniture in particular is ideal for restoring back to its former glory.

Is this something you could do? You bet – because contrary to popular belief you don’t always need to be a joiner or an expert to be able to do this to a good enough standard to offer your skills to other people. It certainly pays to have some knowledge of course, but you don’t need to be a seasoned expert with years of experience to do a good job, although you will of course learn a lot as you become more established.

Chairs, tables and countless other wooden items of furniture… they can all be given a new lease of life with just a little care and attention. The great thing about doing this for people is that you can also market your service as being environmentally friendly. After all, you are giving people the chance to renew their existing furniture without having to bin it. What’s more they will save money too – so that gives you two strong selling points.

Depending on the condition of each item of furniture, it may need restoring in different ways. Sometimes a simple rub down with sandpaper and a treatment with oil or varnish may be suitable, but do ask the owner for as much information as possible before you do anything. It helps to have some kind of estimate or sales note containing notes of what work is to be done before you begin, which you can then get the owner to sign beforehand.

Some items of furniture may be rickety and need strengthening, and in this case you may need to replace bolts or screws, and replace dowels if necessary. The important thing to remember is only to do what you feel confident in doing. You could always start by offering a basic service and taking a night school course to learn more. This would develop your skills and enable you to offer more services and earn more as a result.

Obviously you don’t want to get involved with genuine antiques as these quite often shouldn’t be touched at all. This is another reason for having the customer sign something before you start, disclaiming any responsibility for anything the owner has failed to tell you. This might sound a bit frightening but it’s merely a way of protecting both you and the customer.

It’s obvious that it helps to have a good rapport with people if you are going to start doing this, as it will enable you to get a lot of information from them that will come in useful. Find out what the existing finish is if they want you to refinish it; they may want you to remove it and do something entirely different instead.

Practice does make perfect in this case but it does help to get some of that practice in before you begin. If you have a couple of pieces of furniture you can practice on then it’s a good idea to do just that, making sure you try out a lot of different techniques in the process.

As for where you can do the work, your garage will make an ideal place to start, although you should make sure you aren’t contravening any local laws by working out of your home. A lot could depend on the noise and smells that your business generates. If it is a success think about renting a small unit for people to visit, as you can buy a few old items of furniture and restore them to show your skills. Perhaps you could even offer those for sale?

In short this is a great long term business if you learn the right skills to offer to your customers. When it’s done right, furniture restoration can be an indispensable tool to have in your armory.

Fancy having a go yourself? Leave us a comment below to let us know whether this would work for you, and then start by looking up some classes on furniture restoration in your area.

Start A Local Restaurant Delivery Service

If you like getting out and about, this might be the opportunity you’ve been looking for. You’ll need your own transport and it can take a bit of creativity to set everything up, but in the end you can offer a great service to a lot of local people.

A bit of creative thinking goes a long way here, and it can really set you apart from any competition as well. There are countless ways you can approach this business, but you’ll need to keep on reading to find out what they are.

So you want to deliver food from local restaurants? Here is your first option. Some restaurants already offer takeaway options, but the customer has to come and get their food rather than relying on the restaurant to deliver it for them. If this is the case then you could step in and offer your services to people in your local area. Instead of them having to go out and collect their food, you will do it for them in return for a small payment.

Logistically speaking you could soon become quite busy with this, and you might even find yourself picking up more than one order at a time. You will also need a reliable car to use, since you will need to be quick and efficient at getting the food to the customer as quickly as you can (as far as safety allows of course).

But there are also plenty of restaurants that don’t currently have a takeaway option. Could you persuade one of these to provide that option if you were to provide the delivery service?

There is no doubt that good promotion will get you a long way here. You are offering convenience to the customer, but you can also offer one point of contact. If you can get a phone number that is really memorable and get it printed onto a number of leaflets that you can deliver round your local area, all you need to do is urge people to call that one number whenever they want take out food. They will tell you what they want and where from, and you will get it and deliver it to them for an additional charge. The big advantage of this for the customer is if they want food items from more than one place. All they do is call you and you do the rest.

Good advertising will help here. If you can, get some good quality posters printed with your details and that phone number on and get them displayed in all the outlets you are offering a delivery service for. People will then start to see the number and realize that they don’t need to go out themselves to get what they need.

Does this sound like the kind of thing you’d like to do? One of the biggest advantages is that it’s an evening job, so you can do whatever you like during the day. It could be an ideal time to distribute some promotional leaflets perhaps?

Don’t forget to leave a comment using the form below before you start thinking about this idea in more depth.

Make Money With Local Business Premium Mailers

Most businesses want to promote themselves in the best possible way. A half hearted attempt at a promotion can do more harm than good, so there is clearly a market for professionally printed designs, leaflets and brochures that tell the customer exactly what they can expect from that business.

Could you provide a service that helps businesses enhance their reputation and profits in your local area? There are three main ways you can do this, and you could even extend your service way beyond local businesses to include plenty of others over the entire country…

An outstanding website is the key to running a business like this successfully. If you are offering a premium product to promote someone’s business, your own site needs to be of just as good quality.

If you are looking to set up a completely new business then you can invest in the equipment needed to print these mailers yourself. Leasing it is a possibility if you don’t want to buy it outright, but you will still need to have the space to set it up.

A better option if you sell the product direct without the hassle of printing it yourself is to forge close ties with a local printer that produces excellent quality mailers and other similar products. If you say that you are intending to bring them a lot of new business they may be willing to give you a discount on every order you bring them. You will then essentially be taking a commission on every sale you make.

You may also be able to get a selection of samples of premium business mailers for each potential client to take a look at, so they can see exactly what they are getting for their money. It’s worth getting a proper price list printed up professionally as well as listing everything on your website, since this will bring in more orders if your prices are reasonable enough.

Of course, you may simply want to set up a website that allows you to promote existing services without the hassle of providing them yourself. In this case you should look for an existing high quality printer that does premium mailers and has an affiliate scheme you can promote on your website.

The trick here is to create a site that provides information and advice for businesses who want to promote themselves in a better way than they do now. By revealing different types of products they can make use of – including the mailers – you can then draw their attention towards your affiliate links and simply reap the rewards if an order is placed through one of them.

This is certainly a business that can provide you with as much or as little work as you like. It all depends on how much time you have available and to what degree you want to get involved with your customers. Be sure to design your website according to your needs, as this can affect the success it will have.

If your brain is starting to fire on all cylinders right now, then this could be the idea for you. Be sure to leave a comment for us using the form below before you get started with planning your premium mailer offers though!

Make Money With Local Businesses Advertising Brochures

All businesses need to advertise. That’s a fact of life. But what this means is that there is money in it for you if you can offer to help businesses in your local area promote themselves to the people in your neighborhood.

While a lot of people make do with pushing leaflets promoting their business through letterboxes, a well thought out advertising brochure has a lot more perceived value in many people’s eyes – and therefore tends to be kept more readily.

If you can get the interest of a lot of local businesses you could soon be reaping the rewards…

An advertising brochure can be more like a small booklet if you have a few pages in it. The premise is simple – create an advertising structure which offers full page ads, half and quarter page ads and small eighth page display boxes, as well as classified adverts near the back, and offer deals to local businesses for advertising for three months or more at a discounted price.

The ad prices should cover the cost of getting the brochures set up and printed, as well as having them distributed around the local area (although you can do this part yourself to begin with until the cash really starts to flow, as it will help to keep your initial costs down).

The idea is to make the overall brochure as valuable as possible, so if you can encourage people to offer vouchers for money off deals then the brochure stands a much higher chance of being kept for longer. You can also add value yourself by researching your local area and including one or two articles about it in each issue.

As for frequency, every month is a good bet since any more than this and it won’t get noticed. People will automatically start to think that they may as well bin it as there will be another one through next week. Any less frequent than a month apart and the businesses won’t get the full effect of the advertising.

As far as businesses go, this one doesn’t involve a lot of money down to get it started, although you can offer special deals to get people interested. Let’s say for example you offer people the first issue’s advertising spot free, if they pay for the following two months up front. That is a good deal as it gives them a boost to their advertising for free initially.

Once you have the brochure underway and you have got a couple of issues out, you can think about delivering more brochures each month, or perhaps even starting up a new one in a new area. If you build the cost of getting someone else to deliver them for you into the price of the adverts, you can concentrate on building up a portfolio of brochures that are distributed in several areas close to where you live. Over time this could become a real money spinner.

If you’re good with people and you like the idea of creating your very own brochure to distribute among your local neighborhoods, then why not get started now? Remember to leave a comment below first though!

Make Money With Web 2.0 And Social Media Sites

There is no doubt that social networking sites are becoming ever more popular by the day. But can you convert this popularity into cold hard cash?

The answer is yes, so long as you go about it in the right way. The key thing to remember is that every site works in a slightly different way, so it’s important to become familiar with each one before you start using it.

But if you have a website or a blog that you would like to promote, this is definitely the way you should go to do it – free of charge.

So where do we begin? The first thing to bear in mind is that you cannot make money directly from the social media sites. If you read through the rules of each one you will notice that they frown on directly touting for business in this way.

But that doesn’t stop you from finding people on these sites who fit it with your customer profile and encouraging them to visit your website. All of these sites allow you to post your website address – most of them even provide a space especially to put it in – and if you take some time to build up a profile and a presence on each site you will soon start seeing some traffic going to your website.

The trick to attracting the right kind of people is to build your profile to reflect what your site is all about. So if your website is focused on selling DVDs for example, you could position yourself as a DVD freak who collects all kinds of different titles. This would attract the kind of people who will be most likely to actually buy DVDs themselves. Get the idea? All you need to do is make sure they can buy DVDs from your website, whether you mail them out yourself or you simply have loads of affiliate links leading to websites which will make you a commission every time someone buys something.

The best way to drive the biggest amount of traffic to your site is by joining as many social networking sites as you can manage and linking them all together. For example if you join Twitter you can post a message asking people to see your profile on MySpace, or wherever else you have an online presence.

The same goes for social bookmarking sites, where you can share your bookmarks with everyone else online. Make sure you bookmark your own website wherever possible – on sites like Digg and del.icio.us – to ensure you get more publicity to promote your website with.

One of the key points to remember in all this is to try and insert relevant keywords to your area of interest in your profile at each site. So for example if you have a blog at MySpace make sure you blog about relevant issues and pop some good keywords in there while you’re at it. Once you’ve had some practice you will find you can do it quite casually without it seeming like a sales spiel – which is exactly what you don’t want.

It can take some time to build up a decent following on the social networking sites but there is no doubt that it’s worth the effort if you do it right. It is more responsive than a lot of paid advertising you could do online, and you have a lot more control over it too.

But before you go and sign up to MySpace, Twitter and all the rest, leave a comment for us by using the form below. Many thanks!

Make Money Writing Book Reviews

Have you ever read a particular book and had a really strong opinion of how good or bad you thought it was? And have you ever thought about making money from those opinions?

The chances are you haven’t, and yet you could be doing just that if you are an avid reader and you always get through a lot of books. The time it would take to write a quick review at the end of each one could earn you a nice chunk of money to spend on your next big read!

There are plenty of ways to write for cash online, but writing book reviews isn’t one of the most popular. People tend to go straight for writing articles as this is the most well known way of earning money from your pen (or in this case your typing fingers…), and that leaves a good chance for those people who want to have a go at reviews.

So how do you get started?

Well there are a number of ways you can sell your reviews, and you can actually sell them both online and off, depending on which markets you have locally that may accept them.

A good first step is to search online for websites that pay for book reviews. There are some writing based sites that pay according to how many people view your reviews, such as Helium for example. Other websites allow you to sell your reviews direct to anyone who may wish to buy them; a good example of this kind of website is Constant Content. You set your own price and write whatever kind of review you want to, at whatever length you desire. This can be a good place to sell your book reviews.

But if you want to sell directly to a particular market then you may need to submit your reviews (or ideas for reviews) straight to the editor of a specific publication. Check out your local newspapers and magazines to see if there is a book review slot that isn’t taken up by a regular writer. You can also offer to write a regular review for a particular magazine if you like the subject it is concentrated on; many people get started in a regular job by offering their services like this.

The trick to writing a successful review is to be able to write to any guidelines that people require you to. It’s no good writing 500 words if they only want 300. You have to learn to be able to write tightly and get everything in the required amount of space otherwise you won’t succeed at writing reviews.

Before writing any real reviews try a few practice ones to get the hang of how to do it. There are also plenty of writing based websites and blogs where experts will help and advise you on how to write well and get your ideas and opinions across in the right way. These sites will often also give you more contacts for places that are looking for good reviews to start your career off with a bang.

Incidentally the review business doesn’t just stop at books. If you find you have a knack of writing good concise reviews on many different subjects then why not try your hand at reviewing other things as well? There are plenty of websites which pay you either in cash or in vouchers to review anything from everyday products to cars to electronics, and pretty much anything else you can think of.

In short you can make a nice second income from review writing if you do your research and start adding several markets to your list of possibilities to write for. Take your time though and get used to the process of writing first; if you get off to a good start you will be making more money in no time.

Make Money With Restaurant Cards

This is a great idea which shows how you can make a profit from bringing together two groups of people who need each other! It also shows how solving a problem for a specific market can bring you more customers and clients for your service than you might have thought possible.

What’s more you can also choose to outsource a lot of the work involved, making this more of a ‘hands off’ opportunity than you might think. Everyone has a wealth of restaurants of all kinds nearby, and every single one represents a chance to make a good income on a regular basis.

Take a moment to think about all the restaurants you have in your home town. Which ones immediately come to mind?

The chances are the first ones you think of will be the big, brand name restaurants because they can afford to advertise and let everyone know they’re there and what they offer.

But there is a big chance there are plenty of smaller restaurants in your area that you have never heard of (you might even have walked past them without realizing they were there), purely because they don’t have the funds to advertise in the same way as the competition.

This is where you can make a real difference.

If you think about this in a logical manner you’ll soon see that you can put together a marketing plan which allows the smaller restaurants to find new business, and gives the potential customers in your area a reason to visit them.

What you would need to do is get hold of a few sample cards (think postcard sized) which demonstrate the service you could offer to these restaurants. You can often find online printers that will give you twenty five or more postcards printed for free – all you do is pay for postage. If you get a good design together that promotes a fictional restaurant and gives your potential clients an idea of how your marketing plan works, you will have a powerful marketing tool to show people.

The idea is to promote the restaurant by offering a discount on a meal there. You could also produce a sheet of ideas as part of your marketing plan. For example, a three course meal for a fixed price; 10% off a meal on a certain day; free dessert with a main meal, and so on.

Basically these can be suggested to each restaurant you come into contact with, and the idea is that they will pay you a fee to have postcards printed up and delivered door to door in the local area, to encourage people to come and visit the restaurant and take advantage of the deals advertised on the postcard.

This is where postcards will work better than leaflets or any other form of advertising. Firstly they tend to have more perceived value than a simple sheet of paper, and secondly they are more likely to be kept by people who receive them. This means that more people are likely to take advantage of your marketing efforts – and that could result in repeat orders from each restaurant.

Make sure that the cards need to be presented when visiting the restaurant in order to take advantage of the deal. This means the restaurant will know exactly how well the advertising is doing, and it will boost your business as a result.

You will need to distribute the postcards door to door but you can pay someone else to do this for you. Make sure you pick someone trustworthy that will complete the job though, since you want to ensure that every single card gets delivered.

This is a great little business idea that can also work for other local businesses too if you want to expand it at any point. The great thing about doing this is that you can deliver any number of postcards through the doors at the same time; so long as you bundle them up first so you can put a sheaf of cards through each letterbox you won’t have any problems at all. And if you become friendly with a local printer you could offer to advertise their business on a card in exchange for a cheaper service…
